Dr. S. Bisiliah Honoured at the Karnataka Rajyotsava Awards 2017


Every year the Rajyotsava Awards are announced by the Government of Karnataka for outstanding contributions by individuals in their respective fields. This year 62 eminent personalities have been recognised from various fields. It is a matter of pride that Dr. S. Bisiliah, our faculty from MAB is among the eminent personalities to be conferred with the Rajyotsava award for 2017 in the category - Agriculture-Environment.The award was presented by the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr. Siddaramaiah.


We congratulate Dr. Bisiliah for this achievement and wish him many more laurels. This is a true recognition of his outstanding contribution and research in the field of Agriculture and Economics. His work and achievements should be an inspiration for all of us to excel in our chosen fields.


A brief on Dr. S. Bisiliah is given below:


Dr. S. Bisiliah hails from an agricultural family of Maddur village in Chamrajnagar district. Coming from a very humble background, he completed his education from Intermediate to PhD on merit scholarships.


Dr. Bisiliah joined as Asst Professor at University of Agricultural Sciences Hebbal, Bangalore in the year 1968 and after a few years of work experience, he was specially chosen by Dr. Donald C Tylor –the then visiting professor from University of Minnesota to pursue PhD at the same University. He was selected for the Rockefeller Scholarship and completed his PhD from the University of Minnesota. After completing his PhD he resumed work with the University of Agricultural Sciences Hebbal as Associate Professor and rose to the level of Vice Chancellor.


Some of his career achievements: Visiting Professor-Planning Commission Chair, University of Mysore, Chairman, Karnataka State Agriculture Price Commission in the year 2001 for 5 years equivalent to the rank of Minister of State. Chairman, BMS College of Engineering and BMS College for Women, Member, Karnataka State Council of Higher Education.


Dr. Bisiliah has been associated with various international organisations in different capacities as- Monitoring and Evaluation Expert, World Bank Forestry Project, Nigeria, Consultant to Food and Agriculture Organisation of UNO (Rome). 2006-2008, Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific, UNO. The Report that he submitted to Economic & Social Commission of UNO on soya bean Development in India is still considered as the Standard Reference Material on soya bean Development. He was also the consultant to Food & Agricultural Organization, Rome and Asian Development Bank, Manila.


During his long stint in academics, research and consulting, Dr. Bisiliah has published around 200 research papers in various national & global journals and books. After he joined Manipal Academy of Banking in the year 2011, Dr. S. Bisiliah has published the following books:-
